The Final Performance..

So I'm reading the notes for Tuesday's show, and it all sounds so... final.

I guess the sun has to rise sometime.

It only makes sense that they would end their mini-era of Shadowlands with the host's biggest inspiration.

Really, you could look at this changing and moving on to Sonic Society as one might look at life. You can't live in the past forever. Yet the memories live on in your heart and mind for eternity. And thanks to technology, in the archives...

So you move forward, and on to bigger and better things, with all the hope and promise of anything new. I for one am excited about what the future holds for my friends and their new endeavors. Hell it's not like they are GOING anywhere, next week they will carry on, just emerging from their cocoon completely transformed!

Though, I also know I am not so good with goodbyes. Which is why before I rush off to pick up my daughter from her class, I will be listening to the intro that has awakened my senses for almost two years now. Live and not through the archive.

Because that has always been the best way to listen. :-)

The episode so good they had to play it twice!

As previously mentioned, I once again had to grab the archive of last night's show and play catch-up. This certainly has its advantages. One thing, I'm not chained to my computer listening, and free to roam around talking to myself as I work through the story. (Which gets me looks, which I thought at first were because I'm such a hottie, then I realized I was wearing earphones and talking to myself. Whatever.)

Second- I can fast forward through commercials! Woot-woot!

Thirdly, I have proven that I am indeed an addict because as I uploaded this week's episode to the Evil Pod of Pleasure, I noticed I have like 10 episodes in there. The sky is the limit guys when you make it to someone's iPod! ;-)

Listening to "Deep, Deep is My Love", all I kept thinking was about the movie "Airplane". Seriously, I could SO hear Steve McCrosky at the end when he realized what he had done:

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to start deep sea diving."

Steve McCroskey: "Get me someone who won't crack under pressure."

This wonderful and very useful tool known as fast-forward also came in handy as I was listening to the second story, "Drive-In", and realized I was listening to the SAME EPISODE OF SUSPENSE AGAIN! Was this an archival mistake? Hmm....

What's REALLLLY funny (well to me) is that I was actually waiting in a drive-through line for a diet coke with vanilla slush-like drink while listening to this story!

So, although most of the readers have closed their browser or gone elsewhere by now, I will continue. While waiting for my daughter to finish up a class, I was able to listen to the remainder of the show. "Attack of the Giant Leeches"- OMFG you want to talk about looks from others! My other daughter kept shushing me.

"Mom!" she would hiss. "You're embarrassing me!!!"

I couldn't help it. "Dammit!"

"Janet!"

"I'll go make coffee"

I was sent to a corner to finish out the show where I wouldn't be an embarrassment to anyone under 10.

I do need to clear up one small mis-understanding. It is assumed that my favorite Shadowlands story is Biff Straker. To those who have come to know and love my blog, you will see this is not the case.

Biff is fellow addict Dave's favorite. I am in agreement with your friend and guest for the evening, Mr. Jeff Brown. "The Hitchhiker" is indeed my favorite, though not at all my favorite sin.

And I'm not just saying that because I'm a sucker for a guy who will figuratively throw roses my way over the airwaves....

Ending The Suspense

What an appropriate name for tonight's show! As the suspense builds for the official premier of Sonic Society, we are going to be entertained tonight with a triple-dose of Suspense!

Good things seem to happen in threes... and I sneeze in threes. (I don't know, I'm winging it here.)

Apparently they are playing something for funzies afterward, and it has to do with leeches. Ew.

I am sure the humble hosts will be teasing us with more info on what is to come when they make the switch to Sonic as well, so be sure to tune in!

Me, I am stuck in a meeting (the curse of the 4-hour time zone difference), so once again the addict must grab the archive... but on the upside, I just throw it on the iPod and listen wherever and whenever I want! :-)

I'd be lost without technology!
Have a good show tonight guys! ;-)

The Black Room

I am still trying to get rid of the creepy feeling. I'm a tad claustrophobic, so when they threw him into the black room and he's screaming "No!!! Heeelllpppp!!!!" as they are forcing him in I'm cringing.

Then he's talking to himself, trying to get his heart under control. A rat keeps scurrying by him. I'm squirming in my seat at this point, rubbing at my arms because I just broke out in goose-bumps.

And as I listen I KNOW this is just the poor man's distorted reality... it's not real... I know what the others are doing to him... but I still feel his panic...as he's now talking himself INTO his reality. Justifying everything in his mind so he doesn't go insane... AAhhh I just got goosebumps again.

I'm thinking at the same time, "this would be so awesome to listen to in the dark."

I love a good scary story. Grab the archive, and listen for yourself. (21:00- 22:30)

In the dark.

Or at least the shadows...

But don't let them close the door.

Tuesday's lineup miraculously appears...

Though the humble host assures us it has been up since last Thursday... hmmm.... yet I didn't see it, and now it's there like it has been there all along....

But who am I to argue? Wow, it's like our very own Mystery!

So, as we move on into the final three episodes of Shadowlands, the anticipation builds for the switch to Sonic Society! I hear they are getting tons of interest from plenty of other addicts who want their stories to be heard- and I for one can't wait to hear them! :-)

The addict's playlist over the weekend

I was out of town this weekend, one last hurrah with the family before the kiddos go back to school TOMORROW! Up to a little cabin in the woods, that has been in Mr. Addict's family for 25 years now.

So, away from civilization we went, so I made sure to make sure I had the 'ol iPod with me (affectionately named "The Evil Pod Of Pleasure"), to keep me company during the two nights that I knew I would not be sleeping, and not able to read because of sharing close quarters with my squirmy mini-addicts-in-training. :-)

I found a couple of Suspense episodes from an episode of Shadowlands WAYYY back in January. Then I remembered I saved one from May because they played an old Abbot and Costello bit with my favorite screwy wabbit (like I have many rabbits I call favorite or something? Yes that is me, rabbit whore.) I picked that gif because that is exactly how I feel after a fairly sleepless weekend. Blah.

Of course I had to top it off with my absolute FAVORITE deadly sin... though only in the Shadowlands.. as I have a much better time with other sins to be worried about that particular one. ;-) Oh it was SO much fun to listen in the pitch black cabin with absolutely no other sounds in the background and not knowing what might be lurking outside my window... I know I know, I read too many scary stories!

So, what is in store for us this Tuesday? Well, I have NO IDEA!!! (There is the official cyber-kick in the butt to the host).

Now off to sleep in my nice, un-lumpy bed, with the comforting hum of electricity buzzing around me... I'm so not a country-girl!

Vikings, Fiddles and Sex

Haha. Just finished listening to the show.

The Mystery Theater story was great! Those crazy women and their give-it-all-up-for -love-and-a-viking fantasies...

Apparently there was sex on the boys' brains last night. And THEN, for some odd, unknown reason, during the PSA's suddenly it was on my brain too....

Good show, as always! Though I must correct one minor thing. The launch of Society is September 6th, not the 8th as was said on the air last night.

What would they do without me looking out for them?

Lastly, to answer a very important question asked-- yes, they do have a G-string... but watch out for the f-holes. ;-)

I leave you with fiddle-porn:

Shame on me...

Perhaps it's the guilt of not catching the show that has me up late this evening. Oh the guilt! The humble host back after two weeks of vacation, and I miss it. The shame, the utter shame of it! *insert tragic pose here* I could easily blame the weather, after all as I said in the previous posting we've had storms the past few days, and today was no exception. Alas, I went to my mother-in-laws this evening instead to swim.

And did I get to swim? Nooooo... I lost out on that too- because of the WEATHER! Pretty bad too, I thought for sure I'd get stranded in a wash and me and the children would be on the news sitting on top of the car. I did get a free meal though. :-)

Anywho... enough rambling about me- like that is why people read this thing? So I have now pulled the archive, and will ramble about more important things, like how the show was, later!

It's a good thing Sonic Society hasn't officially started yet- that is not something I want to hear any other way the first time than LIVE!

OK, now that I've confessed, I will try and sleep again. ;-)

An ending or a beginning?

I'm looking at the link to tomorrow night's show. My poor little brain is confused. I'm not sure if it's the end of Shadowlands, or the beginning of Sonic Society.

Either way, it looks like it will be a good show. Jack is back in the big chair, and there is more Mystery Theatre coming our way!

Though I hope I get to listen- there are crazy monsoon storms going on this side of North America, today I've had to shut down the computer 3 times in case there were power outages. Yeesh.

Yeah, I could (and most likely will anyway) grab the archive, but it's SO much more fun listening to them live.... ;-)

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

Wow- official recognition!

So I'm listening to the show last night... minding my own business... thinking about how interesting it was that Mystery Theater made such a fuss over Buddhism, like it was almost taboo and unheard of. Amazing what 20 or 30 years can change...

Then the mid show banter comes... I'm wandering in and out of the office making sure the children aren't killing each other... and I hear it as I'm wandering out-

"Audio Addicts".

Hey- that sounds familiar! I poked my head back in.

"Head cheese... Danielle..."

Hey- they know someone else named Danielle with a blog about Sonic Society? Oh wait- they are talking about ME!!!

Teeheee... you made my night Andrew- and my older daughter's too. She walked in and heard my name. Now she thinks I'm famous! ;-)

Archive Link

I've just realized, that was the end of Shadowlands. But with each door that closes, a new one opens, filled with anticipation, excitement, and endless possibility. If I didn't see all the possibility this new adventure has, I certainly wouldn't be blogging about it.

Besides, when they make the big time I fully expect to be flown out for a REAL vacation! I'm dying to ride that Theodore Tugboat!

(one of my four pictures from my 20 hours in Halifax.. a year ago this month! Yeesh... I'm overdue for a return visit!)

Mystery Theatre Continues..

...on this Tuesday's Shadowlands. Being the curious person that I am, I did a little research on RMT's host, EG Marshall. He never told anyone what the EG stood for. He had suggested that initials might, or might not, stand for "Edda Gunnar" or "Enigma Gregarius", and in one interview, when asked about his initials, he stated it meant "Everybody's Guess."

Another little tidbit: Though he was the host/narrator for the RMT from 1974 to 1981, he performed in only one episode of the show as Ebeneezer Scrooge in its version of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens in 1975 (which was repeated at Christmas time every year until the show's demise).

Andrew at the console again, so I do hope people will tune in and give him a holla! Perhaps even that other host will listen in... what was his name...??

Han Solo or Indiana Jones?

Only 5 people voted on this all-important question on tonight's show? Does no one realize the impact this could have on the universe as we know it? Who would win in a fight- Han or Indiana?

So send an email- sonicsociety@gmail.com. My vote is the guy with the blaster- but after all I am an American. ;-) You can't take a guy in a hat like that seriously either- yeesh.

Great job tonight Andrew! And Ed, not bad for your first time... you have that radio voice... :-)

For those who missed it, grab the archive here.

EEK! The show starts in less than an hour!

Why is it when you start a new project, for instance, say... a fan blog, that all of a sudden every other aspect of your life gets busy and you don't have time to play? Oy...

Though I could blame it on Jack, after all he's been so busy getting everything together for the launch of Sonic Society that he neglected to tell their fans what was coming up on the show!

So- I hope everyone is tuning in as Mystery Theatre continues this month with a show I could reeeaallly get into... "Black Widow".

Ok, gotta order the pizza...

Dani's Post-Show Ramblings

The only thing better than listening to Shadowlands on Tuesday night, is listening to the show with a friend. Dave, my fellow audio addict, was able to join me for most of it this evening. This is one of the many many things I truly love about the internet, because he lives in Minnesota. So we sit in our respective caves and listen while chatting online together. What it usually turns into is something along the lines of "Mystery Science Theatre", making comments and (in tonight's case) try to figure out whodunnit before it's revealed. It was a regular Tuesday night date for awhile, until his day job started screwing with his schedule and taking him away from me. Don't they realize that the universe does indeed revolve around me and my addiction, and any and all schedule changes must be pre-approved with said audio addict?

But I digress...

I was convinced in tonight's Mystery Theatre show "The Time Box", that the daughter did it. I don't know why I always assume the woman is the evil one, but honestly the female is always overlooked. Women need more evil exposure! I remained completely convinced up until the end, when it was revealed that-

well.... I ain't telling. You can listen for yourself by grabbing the archive here.

Mid-show banter with Andrew and Jack is always fun to listen to. The weather forcast however, has been so- so- NORMAL lately. What is up with that? We heard another GREAT promo for their show- though it's a toss up to which one I like more, the mysterious caller tonight or Biff from last week. I have to admit, however, knowing them both just makes me enjoy listening to them even more. Hell they even make the PSA's fun to listen to! They complement each other well. Again, you'll just have to listen to the show to understand what I'm talking about. It's always funny to hear things being thrown at Jack. I don't know why. It just is.

(BTW... the time of the show if you grab the archive is 9- 10:30 p.m.)

Anywho... another Tuesday Pizza Night well-spent. If you listened to the show, leave a comment and tell us what you thought! Come back often for updates as to what is coming up next week, in the "final throes" of the Shadowlands. (Hey I can say it and mean it, unlike some in higher positions of power) :-)

Night all...
~Dani

PS- What? No mention of the fan blog on-air? What am I doing here, talking to myself???? ;-)
