Damn you! Damn you all to hell!

Oh wow, check this out. Yet another audio production company, Broken Sea Productions, bringing awesome remakes and fan fiction your way!

When I'm finished with the Mark Time/Ogle listening, this will be next on the list to check out!

They are also preparing to do Logan's Run in a six-part series. Awesome.

It gets more and more difficult to deny I'm a sci fi fan... ;-)

Stop Cyber Bullying- a small PSA

Forgive me fellow Addicts, just jumping in with a quick message about a story that caught my attention. As a fellow blogger myself, and knowing many of you blog, it seemed important to put here.

I posted about these horrible threats happening to a blogger on the Truth Seekers message board earlier today. For me, it hits home because being as outspoken I am about subjects, I feel very lucky that I haven't had more hatred thrown in my direction. I mean, this woman is a tech blogger for God's sake- what hate could possibly be thrown at a tech blogger? But that is exactly what hate is- irrational, and with no basis of understanding whatsoever.

So tomorrow bloggers are attempting to make a statement about bullying on the web. I am not sure what sort of impact it will make, but I'm willing to participate and show my support. I'm going to post my anniversary episode of my podcast late tonight, then no blogging of any kind until Saturday!

Thanks Jay, for bringing this story to my attention. I knew Twitter was good for something- it led me to your blog! Hell I all ready love your music!

Even the Society Loves Dick Dynamo!

I had to do a double take when I came over to post about this week's Sonic Society. Did I post all ready, then hit my head? Noooo! But my favorite foreign correspondent has made an appearance! About nearly the same thing I was going to post about!

This week's episode also sports the awesome stylings of Dynamo, as well as an interview with the whole gang who give the show life.

Also episode 7 of ROTC rounds out the episode. It's a good one! See if you can recognize the announcer at the beginning, and 2/3 of the soap opera love triangle later on! ;-)

Get 5th Dimensional!

Your foreign correspondent here after a long, crazy-busy hiatus, with word of a brand-spankin' new show launching. It's called "Dick Dynamo: The 5th Dimensional Man", and it's a lot of fun. I got to hear an early "draft" version of episode one as a sneak-peek, and then just got an e-mail about the launch of the actual show. (Now that I think of it, probably a month passed in there somewhere... maybe more... did I mention that it's been crazy busy and also that I suck?)

How to describe Dick Dynamo? Let's see... If you put Matt Helm and Roger Ramjet into the same teleporter and sent them through together, thus melding them into a single, slightly confused but cool being, then poured him into a sci-fi movie with a lot of heaving bosoms and fed everybody in sight as much "Captain Crunch" as they could eat until they were buzzing like a hummingbird... That gives you a vague idea of where this one seems to be heading, and it seems like a swell time to get on board. The email I got promises the first episode will go live tonight.

The official website is http://www.dickdynamo.com. The RSS feed is http://dickdynamo.libsyn.com/rss (or "lipsyn" according to their MySpace page, I'm sure somebody will fix that shortly... The MySpace page is www.myspace.com/dickdynamo - Geeze Louise these cats are organized!)

Anyway, it's a hoot an' a holler, so get on board tonight!

Dance To The Music

Oh Holy Crap, Daryl of The Poddog Show decided to play the damn music tag game going on over on Twitter, and it was only a matter of time before I got my ass dragged into it. (Well, I guess he didn't have a choice. Just like I don't have a choice. Internet drones that we are.)

So I'm supposed to list 7 tunes I'm currently liking (damn why can't they be podcasts? Maybe I'll start my own tag game. It's not like I have anything else to do.):

1. "I Would Love" - Lee Coulter
2. "My Eyes" -Uncle Seth
3. "Good Love" - TNile
4. "You Won't See Me Cry" - Whitney Steele
5. "Pinocchio" - Haven James
6. "Overrated" -Jak Paris
7. "Remember" -Bad Dog No Biscuit

Kay, now you're supposed to link to everyone in the chain: Ajay, Eban Crawford, and AndyCast.

And I tag: Jeff, Shannon, Dave, and Mikey.

Don't spoil it people- I picked you because I bet you have some good tunes you're listening to right now!

Trojan horse targeting Skype; Brad Pitt not included

Just a warning for all of you who use Skype out there- those 13 year old pimply faced hackers have found a way yet again to getcha through your IM. Skype is extremely popular in the audio world, so be wary of a chat message with the text "Check up this" and a link to a malicious executable called "file_01.exe" on a Web site. Bad. Very, very bad.

I got hit with something similar on MSN a couple months back, and you just don't know because it comes from someone who is on your chat list. Sucks rotten eggs, I tell you.

Be on alert, and pass the warning on! I might even go so far as to say, be viral about it. :-)

Fear of Writing

Neat podcast I stumbled upon... oh ok I didn't stumble. It was brought to my attention from a friend of mine, author Jenny Turner. The reason it was brought to my attention is because a short story of hers was read on an episode!

Each month a subject to write about is given, to encourage those who may have wanted to begin writing, but have a fear of actually putting those ideas to paper.

The subject of this particular show was "Free Spirit: You are a gypsy wanderer; your home is a hot air balloon." I think she did a great job, and what an honor to have your story read by an NPR pro!

Direct download:
http://audio.tpr.org/fearofwriting002.mp3

Now I need to work on Jenny to get her other series in podiobook form... ;-)

Fear of Writing is a good podcast as a whole to check out too!

Suspense and Horror!

Two of my favorite things! A couple hits from Podshow. The first, the very best of the classic radio show Suspense!

Then a mix of all your favorite horror shows in one nice neat podcast. Where Vincent Price will live forever.... through Horror Stories.

Check out some live audio drama!

In about an hour (between 1 and 1:30 eastern), Frederick Greenhalgh is going to have his first (ev-AH) live radio play broadcast on WPMG out of Portland, Maine. In his words:

I've written a satirical script tearing apart the
commercial media and FCC, abusing a gamut of sci-fi stereotypes and with a
subtle nod to Great Northern Audio Theater and Hitchhiker's Guide. It's
going to be a completely shot at the hip experience but I'm excited at doing
something original for our listeners and hopefully bringing in some bucks
for the station!

Well there ya have it. If you aren't able to tune in live, he will also be podcasting it over at www.radiodramarevival.com. Sounds fun, I can't wait to hear it!

Sonic Society conquering hills

This week the Society sends you back up the Hill again for part two of Texas Radio's Hecate Hill. Then Jack talks with the king of viral marketing in podcasting, 7th Son author JC Hutchins.

Robotz is also back this week too, with episode #6! YAY!

Inexplicably dumb, but not really

Don't let the name fool you, although it is rather inexplicable. It's comedy, it's ranting, it's theatre news, it's skits... and I started with show number 24, which I had no choice but to check out first as it was entitled, "The Jack Bauer".

Good hosts too, they banter well together. :-)

Brazen Hearts, Fresh, On Sticks

Oh how ghoulishly fun! The very first episode discusses exactly HOW they prepare their brazen hearts.

This is the story of Josie, who sells these brazen hearts outside the mall, and her very average life as a goblin. You know, family problems, and the hobgoblin she has a crush on.

Whose heart will be next? Listen and find out!

Insomniatic Blog Cleaning

Well, I've cleaned up the site a bit. Actually, I might have made it more cluttered, I don't know. As I sit here at almost 2:30 in the morning (yes I just took that picture), I decided to do a few maintenance items to the site. I added a few shows that have been on The Sonic Society but have not been added to my links yet. I put up a video from Mo Rocca about the Public Radio Contest, and shrunk the button I had originally. I even made a blogroll from my Bloglines account, so you can have access to all the audio sites that I check daily. Don't you feel special?

Oh, and the Twitter button. Dear God, I fought that one as long as I could. But, not only am I an audio addict, I am also a device-and gadget-I- have-no-use-for addict as well. How I fought off the Twits! But when I was told I could have it connected to my cell phone? Oh man... that was it for me. I'm as bad a text-messenger as any 15-year-old. I'm waiting for my husband to confiscate my phone and ground me. And that's fine. I will just stomp up to my room, slam the door, and play Marilyn Manson music at full volume.

But now, with this button, all of YOU get to see the insanely unimportant things I plug in. Yayyyyyy- YOU!

Anyway, those of you who have subscribed to this feed, and get email notifications with the posts, I invite you to come on over to the site and take a look-see! Those of you reading directly, well, you see it all ready. :-P

All right, time to attempt that sleep thing again.

Podcasting makes the news yet again

An article in yesterday's USA Today focused on several offbeat podcasts out there:

"In the rapidly expanding parallel media universe of podcasting — downloadable audio (and sometimes video) shows posted on the Internet — this largely entertainment-dominated format has been embraced by the techno-chic. But now some previously obscure academics, educators and amateur enthusiasts — who once had only each other with whom to share their specialized passions — are becoming improbable podstars, complete with national media attention and swelling fan bases."

Not just a blurb article either, it was much more in-depth than I expected it to be.
It won't be long now before we know longer have to follow the phrase, "I podcast", with the 2 minute tutorial on what a podcast is.

Pretty soon they will just answer, "Me too!"

Isotope Audio

From across the ocean ( from where I sit anyway) another audio production company bringing more for this Addict to drown her ears in.

They only have 3 audio productions in their catalogue at the moment (4 if you want to count the two-parter). I listened to File It Under 'F', and it was funny in a slap-stick sort of way.

The two other productions (that I will have to indulge myself in at a later time) are Derek Stella: Deep Space Bounty Hunter, and The War Machine.

Go ahead and give them a listen, and tell Clym that Dani sent ya. ;-)

Extrudingly Pleasant

Take a moment and check out the banter between Gerard Armbruster, and the author he discovered quite by accident in a bookstore one day, Stetson Tudd. Gerard's mission:

"Every week I, Gerard Armbruster, ask you to take a wrong turn with me off life's interstate, and discover the straight story about the bend in the road, where nestle the small towns with big characters, to tug on the common thread that unravels the hand-me-down sweater of our national zeitgeist, and extrudes the truth of our lives."

It has a dry humor that is actually rather refreshing, and you'll either give a good laugh or shake your head while smiling. Neat show!

Season Three ROTC Updated

The fine folks over at Dream Realm Enterprises have informed me that the podcast of their hit series, Robotz of the Company, has been updated now through Season three, Episode five. Head over and subscribe, and you can also catch up on seasons 1 and 2 as well!

Podcast feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/RobotzOfTheCompany

Texas Radio on Sonic Society

It's been awhile since we've heard any Texas Radio Theatre on the show- and this one is AWESOME. I love scary stuff. Can't wait for the second part next week!

Then it's the second part of an interview with the creator of Silent Universe, J. Marcus Xavier.

Since there wasn't a Robotz episode this week, they continued the suspense and played a couple of Darker Project's Five Minute Fears as well.

Ooooooo......

Some side news: Jack is going to be speaking at this year's Podcasters Across Borders about what? Oh yes, you know it- Audio Drama in Podcasts. How fab is that? Now, if it just wasn't the same weekend as my daughter's birthdays... damn my fertility!!!! :-)

I'm very much hoping this talk will be recorded, and uh, well.... podcast!
Yay for Jack!

Podcasting from Mars

Shamelessly copied from- well, my own blog actually:

I have a friend. His name is Rick. Rick hosts an awesome podcast called "Variant Frequencies". They began a message board.

I have another friend. His name is Matt. Matt writes a series for Variant Frequencies called, "The Failed City Monologues". He wanted to help give the message board some attention. So he made a proposition.

Matt is cool. Here is the last line of the first fiction ever with my name in it:

"And that's how Dani Cutler, the audio addict with the coolest name in the 'sphere, became the first woman to podcast from Mars."

Wanna see the rest? Of course you DO.

Now, I just need it read by the author....

Make sure you check out, and join the VF message board!

If I knew then what I know now

An intersting question presented on a podcasting blog I've recently discovered:

If you knew “then” what you know “now” (in terms of Podcast production), how would your Podcast be different today?

I've been thinking a lot about my podcast lately, as I have an anniversary approaching. An entire year and 23 episodes under my belt! As with any momentous occasion, it causes reflection. Where you began, where you are now, where you see yourself going. I have an interesting circumstance, because I was podcast-producing for a couple of months before I began my own show. So I was able to learn some of the production side that way. Really, even that was just basic editing, because the show was complete. Just cutting and pasting and inserting. But it did enable me to become comfortable with programs, and with my own abilities. I will always be grateful for that opportunity- thank you Sonic Society!

In all honesty, I don't think my show would be any different today, speaking strictly from a production point of view. It evolved exactly as it should. Podcasting has always seemed to be a "learn as you go" endeavor, for the most part. The quality definitely became better over time, with practice. I think there is less pressure simply in the fact that you have complete control over your podcast, in creativity, content, even time. What I also found is, as I began listening to more podcasts, I started experimenting more with my own show. Trying different things. So that would add to the production evolution as well.

How would you answer this question?

Technology and Audio Drama

It's been awhile since I've talked about my favorite (never mind he's the only) foreign correspondent here on the addict blog, and for that I totally suck. But when I saw that a new podcast recently interviewed Gregg Taylor of Decoder Ring Theatre for their tech show, I had to make sure everyone knew about it!

Gregg discusses how he started out in audio drama, and also talks about what he thinks about broadcast media as a whole.
It's a very good interview... and you can't miss just how much he loves radio drama and old time radio!
How very well spoken you are Red Panda! ;-)

If you are feeling like you need a new outlet in which to explore your geekiness, try Technology and the Arts out for size.

With the initials T&A, how can you not want to go and see what it's about?

How would you like to host your own public radio show?

The Public Radio Talent Quest
I found this over on Podcasting News, and thought all you addicts would definitely want to know about it. There is a contest out there sponsored by the Public Radio Exchange, and they want new show hosts! From their FAQ page:

What's this "Talent Quest" all about?

We're looking for the next great public radio host - three of them actually.

Public radio needs new ideas and new voices - especially as it expands online and beyond broadcast.

We thought the best way to find new talent was to throw it wide open, inviting the public to enter, to vote, and generally help shape the whole thing.

It is public radio, after all.

Yes, indeed it is. Round one begins on April 14th, and there are cash and prizes all along the way! It's the American Idol of Public Radio!

Silently Combing the Universe

The next Sonic Society podcast is out! Lot's of good stuff this episode, I'll just do a quick copy/paste:

-The Firefly contest has been extended through May!
-Send Shannon Unicorns
-#3 on Podcast Pickle, but we're eyeing the #2 spot...
-Voicemail line
-Email
-Part 2 of Episode 1 of Silent Universe
-Speaking of that #2 spot on Podcast Pickle... Comedy4Cast Promo!
-Interview with J. Marcus Xavier, creator of Silent Universe
-Episode 5 of Robotz of the Company

I think that is great they are extending the Firefly:Old Wounds T-Shirt design contest. I know I'd wear one- and I bet they get some great designs!

Have you been to the Lounge?

Because if you haven't, you really should go and check it out. Dream Realm's Dark Building Lounge is a little interview/chat show that profiles members of the DRE team. It's hip and jazzy, and you can actually see the comfy chairs and coffee house atmosphere.
And really, with the name Dark Building, I mean come on- how can you not want to go check it out?

Even better, this episode they happen to be profiling yours truly. :-)
All I can say is, yes, the chairs are comfy.
And damn, what a list!
You can download the episode directly right HERE, but please head to the link below and listen to their previous two episodes, and get to know a couple members of a great audio drama company!

Praise The Company.

End of shameless plug.
