The Red Panda Returns

It's here! It's here! Season three of The Red Panda is here!!

Well, it's been here for a few days now.. but hey it's there forever now...

"A pyromaniac is preying on the slums and tenement buildings of the city, bringing danger and misery to the lives of the some of its most vunerable citizens. The police are searching in vain for the firebug who holds the city in a grip of terror. But if a certain masked duo is right, there may be more to this arson spree than meets the eye. Can even the Red Panda and The Flying Squirrel withstand the flames of... Brimstone Alley?"

I also noticed there is a Director's Cut of the Season Two ending- complete with a deleted scene- now un-deleted!

"They say the hand is quicker than the eye... but when a baffling jewel robbery proves that someone's hands are quicker than a hundred eyes, the Red Panda is on the case! And when the culprit adds murder to their crimes, the hunt is on in earnest... and it's Rabbit Season!"

Welcome back Red Panda!

Rare red pandas born at Edmonton Zoo

Last Updated: Friday, June 29, 2007 | 12:18 PM MT

Zookeepers across the continent are celebrating the birth of two extremely rare red pandas at Edmonton's Valley Zoo.

The cubs, which were born at 3:26 a.m. Tuesday, are part of a very small population of red pandas in the world. It's estimated that there are fewer than 2,500 red pandas alive in the wild because the animals' natural habitat in China, India and Nepal is being destroyed.

Forty red pandas are being raised in zoos. The Valley Zoo has joined an international breeding program in an effort to keep the species alive.

"They're a species survival program animal," said Sandy Helliker, an animal health technologist at the zoo who is taking care of the cubs. "So the species is managed so that hopefully at some point, they'll be able to be re-introduced into the wild."

Currently, the cubs are being kept away from the parents because the mother, Lala, was over grooming them and causing lacerations.

Helliker has spent several sleepless nights this week hand-feeding the cubs, who need to eat every three hours. It's not an easy task, she said.

"It's sort of like raising a baby," said Helliker. "It's very tiring. Actually, I think it's more tiring than when I raised my two kids."

The two new cubs won't be released back into the wild. However, their offspring could be.

"We know that some of these species that are being bred will eventually end up back in the wild, and that's really important to us," said Jan Archbold, a spokesperson for the zoo.

It will be about three months before the cubs will be on display with their parents, Koko and Lala.

The zoo will hold a contest this summer to name the pandas.

"It's hard to not get attached to something so little and cute," Helliker said.

Red Panda Season Two Almost Over!

Have you been listening to Decoder Ring Theatre's "The Red Panda"? If not- well, DO IT.

There are only a couple episodes left of the season. But the beauty of podcasting is, you can listen and catch up at any time! Here's the second-to-last episode synopsis:

"When you put on a mask and fight for what's right, secrets are your
stock and trade. They protect you, and those around you, from those
that would seek to end your quest for justice. But when those secrets
are compromised, the shield can become a sword in the hands of a
vengeful enemy. What will happen when that moment comes for our
heroes? When the mask slips, just a little? And what fury will come
crashing through... The Hidden Door?"

Go. Now. Subscribe. Gregg has a baby to feed. (How this weighs on his baby eating, I don't know. Just do it and don't ask questions.)
