PMD Day One- oh please let me sleep!

Ha. Well that ain't happening. First off, thank you Ajay (All Axis Radio) for letting me borrow your laptop, and pretending not to hear me grumble about having to figure out a Mac.

So- Thursday afternoon was fairly uneventful until the evening, when everyone had finished trickling in, and trickled to the bar area to see if they could place anyone. What was REALLY funny is that I was recognized before I recognized anyone else. Space case that I am, I finally realized that *I* seem to be the only one brave enough to use a photo of herself as an avatar on the 800 sites I parooze. LOL! But hey, I had podcasters buying me drinks, so I ain't complainin'. ;-)

Today was the first day of the expo. The keynotes were actually quite good, and inspiring, as much as I could be inspired at 9 am on about 3 hours sleep and nursing a latte.

Note to Jack Ward: One of the keynotes was Ron Moore!!! It was totally cool, and I will be very VERY disappointed in you if you read this and have to google who he is. The reason this is important- someone asked a question about him ever starting his own fictional podcast (btw these keynotes will be available as a podcast at a future date), and his answer was if he did, it would be more like an audio play- WHICH HE DIDN'T THINK THERE WERE ANY YET ON PODCAST!!!! Dude- email him!! All of you audio cinema podcasters- show him this medium!!

Dreaming in the Society

This week's Sonic Society is a good one- as we head to Dream Realm Enterprises and a double feature of their anthology, Celena's Dreams. We go from a light fantasy story to a darker realm, and the ending my friends, well, it certainly gave me chills. (And the award for the best audio death this addict has ever heard goes to-).

New Darker Projects: Dark Matter

It pays to have a service like Bloglines. I subscribe to all the new podcast feeds so I can see what's out there.

I tell you, it's slim pickings, if I were to go by title alone. I am really picky when it comes to talk shows, and really that is what most of the new podcasts are- talk shows. And alot of them, I hate to say, are not all that great.

However, when I see a name I know, such as Darker Projects, well, I'm going to click on over and see what's happening.

They have a new sci fi audio series out, and it promises to be a good one! I took a listen to their intro mp3, and I'm certainly intrigued...

The first episode is called, in true sci-fi form, "The Specimen":

Consider the possibilities if earlier experiments by nature had taken hold, and humanity as we know it today had evolved in an entirely different way. In such a world, the notion of what it is to be human would be entirely alien to us, and what is human in our eyes would indeed be a strange...specimen.

I can't wait to take a listen! According to their website it's been out for a month now, so if anyone's listened, leave a comment and tell us what you thought of it!

WiPO- could be very bad for podcasters

This could be really REALLY bad for all of us podcasters out there! In a nutshell-

"If adopted, the WIPO treaty will give broadcasters 50 years of copyright-like control over the content of their broadcasts, even when they have no copyright in what they show. A TV channel broadcasting your Creative Commons-licensed movie could legally demand that no one record or redistribute it—and sue anyone who does. And TV companies could use their new rights to go after TiVo or MythTV for daring to let you skip advertisements or record programs in DRM-free formats."

I have been WAY out of the loop- I first heard about this through Michael and Evo's Wingin' It.
Pass it on and take action! Those of you out of the country- there are ways you can help, first and foremost by spreading the word around to all your American peeps!

Gearing up for 7th Son Book Two!

Six months ago, the 7th Son sci-fi podiobook trilogy began: Seven clones were ripped away from their "normal" lives to hunt a ruthless criminal -- the man they were cloned from, the man who masterminded the assassination of the President ... John Alpha.

Listeners met John, Father Thomas, Kilroy 2.0, Michael and the other Beta clones. They watched the conspiracy of John Alpha emerge. It was all a story, it wasn't real.

But for one night ... it will be.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, 7th Son fans can become a part of podcast history. They'll enjoy an exclusive sneak peek of 7th Son, Book Two: Deceit. Audio coming out of my

ears. Seriously, what were you thinking? I do not even know where to start about all the freaking awesome audio goodness about to break out- and I'm one T-I-R-E-D addict. I've been talking all freaking day into my mic. But more about THAT later. Right now, I have some cool Sonic goodness.

Tomorrow is the Season Premiere of The Sonic Society! I'm so very glad it's here- it has been exactly 20 weeks of re-runs. Tomorrow night 8pm eastern Andrew Dorfman takes the helm, and I think we're in for a pretty good ride. I don't want to give too much away... but Jack, your humble host from last season, had some musings about it on the new Society blog. So tune in- and if you can't tune in, keep your eye on the podcatcher for the podcast to show up!

I then paroozed over to the production company, Sonic Cinema Productions. OK, well, I was looking for something. I knew they were planning on taking Halloween pics- erm, I mean fan pics of the actors in Firefly costumes, and I was hoping they were up so I could tease them.

I didn't find any blackmail pictures, but I did find something better- a little flashback to the Shadowlands days! I love free downloads! Things that begin with Sonic are guaranteed to be good, at least in the radio world. Sonic burgers, well.... ok well I have a small weakness there too. (I know- I'm WEAK!!)

OK, so the way we connect this to why I'm so tired and audio worn out is this. Sonic Society got it's very first syndication in the states- and right in my backyard! Yay! I just have no idea how that possibly could have happened... heheheh. But something very awesome for ME also happened... and if you click here, you will understand why... :-D

Have you been to the Stargate Cafe yet?

Finally- I feel I've accomplished something on the listening side. I started listening to Planet Retcon's podcast a couple of months ago- and then saw other shiny things and was distracted for awhile.

But today I sat down, determined to finish and get caught up! And I did! Yay! Well, I'm as caught up as they will let me be... at any rate.

The Stargate Cafe is dubbed "a sitcom in space", which I can actually compare to say, "Cheers" in space. It's really cute- and it really does play out like a sitcom! All they need is the canned laughter! (The word from the sponsors- oh how perfect!!!)

There are a couple other stories in the podcast too, but I wanted to stick to one, so I haven't heard them yet. I plan on doing that while waiting for episode number 8!

Oh!! I guess I can also call them an award winning podcast- since they just won a Parsec Award for Best Audio Drama! So congrats to them! :-)

UPDATE: Michael and Evo's Wingin' It! was live from Dragon*Con, and their show is up! It's a MUST LISTEN folks, and let me tell you why. Mz. Geek-Fu herself, Mur Lafferty, reads an essay live. That she wrote while drunk. She explains the reasoning behind her lack of contributing to the show. Let's just say... it has to do with, um... intimate parts of the human body...
Trust me, this ain't your normal essay from Mur. ;-) I honestly think this essay is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

A small, warning, there is absolutely no way to prepare you for the extensive use of the words "d***" and "c***" in this, so if that isn't your thing, please don't blame me. I warned ya.

A season ends... again.

We jump ahead for this week's Sonic Society, bringing you last season's finale. Texas Radio Theatre is at the helm, and Shadowlands Theatre bringing up the rear.

Why? Because Season TWO begins next week! Yipppeeeeeeee!

OK, in all honesty, I'm a complete snob, and like the sound of my voice, so I wanted to replay the interview I did with the guys talking about how awesome the first season was.

OK, so that isn't totally honest. I can't stand the sound of my voice, but I do in fact really enjoy this interview. I personally think it's the most fun I've had chatting with them, and that IS being totally honest. I hope they ask me back this coming season.... hehehe.

Also, I notice they have been busy re-constructing the SS website, giving it a whole new look. I must say it looks quite purdy, and very easy to navigate. (get it? Navigating the SS Website? Ohhh yeeeaaaaaah, I'm a dork....)

No Justice for Decoder Ring Fans!

Because, their season of Black Jack Justice is now over, with their final installment, "Justice and the Happy Ending".

Gregg Taylor and the gang have been so busy this past year- and we have certainly benefited with the 30 episodes of Red Panda and Black Jack Justice combined. I know I look forward to more episodes of the Red Panda, which begin in about a month!

But keep your eyes peeled on your podcatcher, because they are going to be putting out some "special features" before that!

Congrats on all your hard work gang... I'm sure you will do absolutely nothing but rest these next few weeks... (insert thick sarcasm here)

Goin' to Slab City

Every week I get my Coyote Radio newsletter in the email, and I say to myself, "I really need to do a blog entry about them- it's been so long!"

And I never do. I so totally suck. But this time I will- and there is an awesome podcast they offer you really should get your ears around.

This latest Slab City podcast featured the poet Christina Bell, whose poem "The Too Much", was just so moving- I mean WOW. If you're into modern poetry, this is the podcast for you.

For those who might not be aware, Coyote Radio is so much more than simply Coyote Radio Theatre, who brings all the great comedy sketches we have come to know and love. Poetry, music, and general nostalgia that give you the old-west feel Arizona is certainly known for. They have a brand-spankin'-new studio in which to broadcast from too- so things are all good up there in Prescott!

Take a look and see all the goodies they have to offer! Definitely, some of the best audio comes out of Arizona!

Holiday Weekend Treats #2

Seriously, I'm a total flake. I pimp this puppy everywhere else EXCEPT on this blog. Why I realize this now at almost 3am- I dunno.
So get this- I'm going to copy a post from SFF audio- one that *I* made.

It's almost like there are two of me.... and that is one scary thought!


I'm excited to let everyone know that the next installment of the fan audio Firefly:Old Wounds, has been posted and is awaiting every Browncoat's eager ear! The response to the premiere a few weeks ago has been overwhelming.

Episode Two is called "All Alone in the Black", and it picks up where we left off last episode.

Expect the following:
- More of Mal's past is revealed with this stow-away named "Timber."
- Simon continues to make a mess of things with Kaylee while the woman from his past, Derona, continues to play her cards close to her chest.
- All this and a classic styled sci-fi plot device that's just a whole lot more than anyone's bargained for.
-An interview with a few of the actors in the series, and more outtakes too!

Holiday weekend treats

Your trusty S.A.A. Foreign Correspondent here, with good news for those of us without fancy-pants plans to get away for the long weekend... How about a short holiday in a dystopian future! That's right sports fans there's a brand spankin' new installment of Silent Universe out there for the taking... and a refresher on episodes one and two is always welcome... so that's got you covered for the afternoon, anyway.

And this evening around 7 o'clock the Parsec Awards take place down in Atlanta, and I'm sure the mayhem will spill over into the audio files of those of us who couldn't swing the trip soon afterwards.
